Austin Air vs IQAir

Deciding between two of the best air purifiers, IQAir and Austin Air, can be a difficult decision but we are here to help you.

That also includes a higher price tag and that is not a bad thing as you will get what you pay for with both of these air purifiers.

While they have some similarities like using high-quality filters to remove particles from the air, there are some big differences between the two as well.

So let's not wait any longer and jump right into comparing two specific models from each company, Austin Air HealthMate Plus and IQAir HealthPro Plus.

IQAir vs. Austin Air — A Comparison of Top-Rated Air Purifiers

Price

What will you pay to ensure you have the best air quality inside your home?

You can spend anywhere from $100 all the way up to $1,000 or more on an air purifier and with these two brands, you are going to get what you pay for.

The Austin Air HealthMate Plus price tag is $854.99 (we may have a discount for you if interested) and the HealthPro Plus from IQAir has a price of $899.00.

The prices for these units reflects the high quality of air filtration inside them, with both brands having some top-rated systems.

What is the difference between the filters you may ask? Let's go find about that below.

Filters

IQAir HealthPro Plus

The HEPA filter inside the HealthPro Plus is the big selling factor for IQAir.

They call it the HyperHEPA and it is "hyper" good at capturing airborne particles. In fact, it has been tested and certified by an independent third-party lab to filter 99.5% of harmful ultrafine pollution particles down to 0.003 microns in size. This is one of the best HEPA filters on the market and can capture very minute particles.

Also in the filtration system is a PreMax filter that traps coarse particles like pollen, pet dander, and mold spores. The gases, chemicals, and odors are eliminated with the V5-Cell filter.

With 5 pounds of activated carbon in that filter, it is able to help eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful chemicals like formaldehyde.

Austin Air HealthMate Plus

The HealthMate Plus carbon filter is what you will want if you need to eliminate gases, chemicals, and odors. The 15 lbs. of activated carbon and Zeolite also has potassium iodide added for extra protection from those already mentioned pollutants (VOCs and formaldehyde to name a few) along with smoke.

Add in two pre-filters and a true medical-grade HEPA filter, you have a complete filtration system that you won't find in other air purifiers.

With 10 more pounds of activated carbon mixture in the filter than the IQAir HealthPro Plus, the Austin Air HealthMate Plus will give you much more protection against those foul smells and gases you can't see.

Both filter systems are great for eliminating pollutants inside your home even if they go about it with different filters. For IQAir, you will have more focus on eliminating particles in the air. Austin Air will focus not only on eliminating the gases and odors but also make sure the particles are being taken care of too.

So how often will you have to change filters for each one?

IQAir Filter Life Expectancy Austin Air Filter Life Expectancy
V5-Cell Carbon Filter — 2 years
HyperHEPA Filter — 4 years

Housing Material - Plastic vs Steel

One of the main differences between the two units is IQAir air purifiers are made from plastic while Austin Air's units are made from solid steel.

IQAir — The housing is made of non-offgassing, impact-resistant, UV-stabilized ABS. So what is that? It is plastic that contains an additive that will absorb certain wavelengths of UV with little or no degradation. This helps preserve the unit for a long time.

Austin Air — The housing is made of solid steel and welded together to prevent any rattling. The powder-coated paint will prevent any off-gassing and odors. The caster wheels and control knobs are the few plastic parts that exist on the HealthMate Plus.

Noise Levels - How loud are they?

"How loud is the air purifier?" is a question that you probably have on the list when searching for air purifiers. An extra loud air purifier might be bothersome with it running all the time. But if it eliminates the pollutants in your home, does it necessarily matter? Lets see how the two units compare for sound.

Austin Air HealthMate Plus has 3 different fan speeds and the noise levels range from less than 50 dB to around 62 dB (decibels). You can expect noise levels from a quiet conversation to a normal conversation on the highest setting.

IQAir HealthPro Plus has noise levels ranging from 25 dB to 57 dB depending on what speed the air purifier is set to. This has 6 different speeds so that is why you get a wider range of noise levels. A whisper is around 30 dB so if you have it on the lowest setting all the time, this will be very quiet.

Both units will sound like a normal conversation when on the highest setting with the IQAir being a little bit more quiet.

*Around 50 db is moderate rainfall or a quiet office setting and 60 dB is considered a normal conversation or background music*

Warranties

Both Austin Air and IQAir have great warranties that back their amazing air purifiers. The warranties provide you with reassurance in case anything does happen to your unit(s).

Austin Air — The air purifiers are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for five (5) years from the date of purchase and a five (5) year pro-rated filter warranty, by far the most comprehensive in the industry. If the filter lasts less than five years, Austin Air will discount the cost of a new filter based on the number of years the filter has been in use. They also have a 30-day money back guarantee!

IQAir — They guarantee that your air purifier is free from defects, or they will fix or replace it for free. You will have to register your product within 30 days of purchase to be eligible for a 10-Year Limited Warranty. This warranty is for parts and labor (excluding filters).
