Having A Party Could Save Your Baby's Life
Since September is National Baby Safety Month, why not host an infant CPR party?
An infant CPR
party provides parents with an opportunity to learn a vital child
safety skill while enjoying the camaraderie of friends and family.
"For their
children's sake, all parents and caregivers should take time during
Baby Safety Month to learn infant CPR and safety-proof their home,"
said Dana Dubinsky, articles editor at BabyCenter.com. "By hosting an
infant CPR class at home, parents can provide a comfortable setting for
their friends, a babysitter, and even grandparents to learn an
important lifesaving skill."
The American
Red Cross recommends inviting six to eight participants and arranging
for an instructor certified by the American Red cross or American Heart
Association. Topics covered in the three- to five-hour class include
first aid for a choking infant, infant CPR techniques, and basic
safety-proofing and accident prevention.
"By throwing
a party, parents can pool babysitting resources and plan a class at the
home of someone who lives in a location convenient for all the guests,"
said Dubinsky. "Since you're hiring the instructor, you have the
flexibility to schedule a class on a weekend or during the day when
participants will be better rested and able to digest all the important
information that comes their way."
